Charleston: Eating Well in The Holy City

We’re taking a deep dive into Charleston, South Carolina for our August newsletters. In 2005, when Charleston Food + Wine debuted, the annual gathering of chefs, bartenders, sommeliers, and food lovers helped shine a national light on the city’s seriously impressive dining scene. It also started drawing hungry food seekers to the region. In the years since then, Charleston has become one of the top destinations in the country for eating and drinking, and it’s a particular favorite of ours. It’s hard to think of a better evening than sidling up to the bar at the Ordinary for some freshly shucked oysters and a daiquiri, or a more satisfying lunch than a giant tray of smoked meats at Lewis Barbecue. You’ll find plenty of standout Southern eats, along with a number of spots that reflect Charleston’s growing diverse population, with great places for Chinese, Vietnamese, and more. In August, paid subscribers can download a free copy of our Charleston dining guide using the discount code found in this month’s newsletters. And, as usual, paid subscribers can download additional Field Guides at 50% off the regular price. In addition to our Charleston coverage, we’ll share a standout breakfast sandwich spot in Iowa, a place to find New Orleans classics in the Berkshires, plus a fantastic cocktail bar in Portland, Oregon.
